1970: A Nose is Born
Born amidst the fragrant fields of the English countryside, I was destined to fall under the spell of scent. A spark ignited at eight when a magical perfume-making kit arrived, courtesy of my ever-supportive dad. With every experiment, my love for fragrance blossomed, nurtured by his infectious enthusiasm. My journey into the world of perfume was born.
1997: A Scent of Hope
Life threw curveballs: postnatal blues and the heartbreaking loss of my dad, Albert. But amidst the storm, a fragrant lifeline appeared - aromatherapy. Its healing power was undeniable. Driven by a desire to share this gift, I opened my doors in the UK, offering a haven of holistic healing. Today, that journey continues, one heart and soul at a time.
1999-2019: Desert Dreams
In '99, I swapped the English countryside for the Dubai desert, armed with nothing but a dream. After years of blending and concocting, NightingOils was born. To my astonishment, my little collection of aromatic goodies, skincare gems, and fragrant delights captured hearts worldwide. Who knew my desert oasis would become a global fragrance haven?
2016: A French Kiss for My Soul
A sun-soaked summer in Grasse transformed me from perfume enthusiast to perfumer extraordinaire. The hallowed halls of the Grasse Institute of Perfumery sharpened my senses and ignited a creative fire. Collaborations with Grasse and UK perfume houses followed, but it was a chance meeting with the legendary Jo Malone that truly defined my path. Inspired by her maverick spirit, I rebranded as Melanie Jane, crafting scents that are as unique as my signature. Today, every Melanie Jane fragrance is a testament to that transformative summer and an unwavering dedication to olfactory excellence.
2017: A World of Scent
My French adventure wasn't just about refining my craft; it ignited a passion for sharing my knowledge. From the opulent settings of the French Riviera to the iconic Burj Al Arab, I've transformed masterclasses into unforgettable experiences. Students flock from New York to Thailand, eager to unlock their inner perfumer. Spreading the love of scent around the globe is my mission, and every class is a fragrant adventure.
2019: A Symphony of Brands
My unique blend of luxury and innovation caught the scent of the big players. Carlsberg sought my magic to launch Kronenbourg 1664 Blanc in the UAE, and the result was a fragrance that perfectly captured the brand's essence. Word spread like wildfire, and soon Toyota, Mercedes, and Martini were knocking on my door. It's been a heady mix of creativity and commerce, and I'm still writing the next chapter in this fragrant saga.
2020: A French Affair
France, with its intoxicating blend of history, culture, and, of course, fragrance, captured my heart. Making it my home was a no-brainer. Today, I'm a perfumer with a global reach. Crafting scents for indie darlings, influential tastemakers, and rising stars is my passion. But it doesn't stop there. I'm also a mentor, sharing my expertise through online courses and my Scent Studio. With a reputation for luxury and innovation, I'm the go-to for brands seeking unforgettable fragrances.
2024 and Beyond: A Passion for Perfume
I'm constantly juggling exciting projects, from mentoring aspiring perfumers to creating bespoke fragrances for discerning clients. Between teaching at my French studio and organizing exclusive events, there's always something new and inspiring on the horizon.
In addition to my perfume work, I've recently authored a book exploring the enchanting world of scent and am thrilled to be launching a fragrance franchise in the UK. With new masterclasses planned for 2024, I'm eager to share my passion with a global audience.
